Introduction to Traditional Climbing.  Learn the basics of staying safe while traditionally lead climbing in our intensive two days introductory course.

This two day course is for climbers with experience on natural rock (climbing as a second) or lead sport climbs either indoor or outside.  You must be a competent belayer.  This is for those who want to progress to leading traditional climbs and placing gear during the climb and setting up anchors.

Getting there:

You will need to get yourselves to and from the location.  If you are planning on staying overnight on the trips we can let you know some good locations to stay.

Rough Guide to the days – These are flexible to suit you and the environment on the day:

Day1
1

09:00-10:00 Meet up

Meeting in an agreed location close to the crag, for a brew and a chat about equipment and the safe use of it.

10:00-16:00 Rock climbing

Basics of knots, placing of gear, setting up anchors, belaying a lead climber. We don’t tend to stop for lunch, but encourage people to take regular food and drink onboard.  Practice climbing movement to support gear placement and learning about falling safely!

16:00-17:00 Finish

Back to base, for a cuppa, a review of what’s been learnt, what needs more work and route choices and relax. You might even get some homework!!!
Day2

09:00-9:30 Meet up

Meet up and get climbing.

09:30-15:30 More climbing

Your first lead if not already ticked off yesterday. Then lots of quality climbing. Embedding your new found abilities. Retrieving equipment and abseiling are covered as part of resolving problems.

15:30-16:30 Next steps

1-2-1 and group review time. Personalised action plan and farewell.
