The National 3 Peaks Challenge involves summitting the three highest peaks in Britain – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in England – in just 24 hours. It is not a technical mountain challenge but it is tough and physically demanding.

Ideally, preparation training should start 3 months prior to the event and with the correct preparation this challenge is achievable for anyone with thorough advance preparation and the right mental attitude.

The 3 Peaks are

  • Scafell Pike (978 m or 3,209 ft), in England
  • Ben Nevis (1,344 m or 4,406 ft), in Scotland
  • Snowdon (1,085 m or 3,560 ft), in Wales

A day to the summit either Snowdon or the equally technical peak of Scafell Pike. To understand the route and the timing needed to complete the challenge within the 24 hr period. Remembering that at least 10 of the 24 hours is taken up with the driving between the peaks, the time on the hills is short and therefore your walking pace needs to reflect this. This Recce event will give you an indication as to where you are within your training and enable you to adjust it accordingly.

Arrive at the meeting point. Close to Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis or Snowdon base.

Summit the chosen peak, via a pre selected route. Careful attention will be paid to the choice of route, weather conditions and ground underfoot. We track pace and performance during these sessions, analysing your condition as we train on 1 peak.

Return to base, de-kit, relax, have a brew and review how the day has gone.
