Touching Rock Weekend – North Wales – 25th & 26th & 27th May 2019

Mays trip to North Wales,  Touching Rock Long Weekend was amazing. Lots of new faces and some regulars too.

Sunny, Windy, Blustery, Overcast & Rainy. Rhyolite, Igneous, Volcanic, Quartzite and Limestone rock types. Sport climbing and top roping.

First time out on rock for many, but the weather was so nice and the walking so short, that we were straight onto so long Single pitch climbs
We were soon tackling a wide range of climbs, outdoor technical grade 4a through 5b.
First Venue : Clogwyn Ddu and Clogwyn Wen

These little gems are located between Plas-y-Brenin and the RAC Boulders. Only 5mins off the roadside, a great little venue for a days single pitching.
A beautiful day, started by meeting up in the excellent Moel Siabod Café for a breakfast bite to eat.

Second Venue : Rain everywhere in North Wales, so off to Holyhead we go.
Mighty winds and a chilly start, meant we moved location from the Ramps to lower down. Then to be met with sunshine for the remainder of the day.

Third venue : Castle Inn Quarry
Really nice venue, convenient and easy to access with climbs coming out of the car park. However, we stuck to the wings and newer climbing areas. Lots of Sport climbing and fun had, with most of the crags to ourselves. Rare on a bank holiday Monday. Our three newest climbers at the end of the day, heading home, happy. Plus the two ladies that make it all possible showing off their synchronized belaying.

Well done everyone, look forward to seeing you in the Peak district for our June trip.
