The ability to navigate when out on a walk is an essential safety skill. Whether on a mountain, bridleway, footpath or Moor, the ability to know where you have been, where you are and where you are going is fundamental.

Join SAAIGOutdoors on this refresher course. If you have learnt to navigate before, but aren’t too sure anymore, then this course is for you. We will take you through the basics again, allowing you to navigate on marked paths, footpaths, tracks, Dales and Mountains alike. This course is also good for those with little or no experience of navigating with a map and compass.

Meet at SAAIGOutdoors HQ, We will equip you with the gear you need for the day and head to a local venue for the day.

09:15-13:00 Navigation

You will refine your understanding and hone the techniques required to develop a better understanding of navigation strategy – Distance, Direction, Check off and Overshoot.  Practice measuring distances using timing and pacing. Hone your technique for following a bearing in poor visibility, improve your route-finding and route planning skills – using natural features and hazard avoidance.

Back to base, for a cuppa, chat, review and relax.
